About the Club
The Saxons Petanque Club was formed at the Cricklade Bowls Club in September 2008 with 6 members
Due to lack of space we moved to the Cricklade Leisure Centre in March 2012 with 30 members. We built up to have approx. 65 members.
In 2021 several members split off to form Cricklade Petanque Club at Cricklade & Spa Hotel. That left us with just over 40 members
(currently 48, 2024).
Joining the Club
We would love for you to just turn up at the club and give it a go! We can provide you with spare boules and anything else you require in order
to work out if this is the sport for you. Most new members get hooked right from the start!
If you wish to join us, there is more information available on this website, or on the Leisure Centre notice board, opposite reception. Please use
the Contact Us tab to enter simple contact details and any message then click Send, someone from the committee will respond as soon as
possible. You can also approach any member on the piste and they will relay your information to the committee.
Playing the Game
We play at Cricklade Leisure Centre on:
Tuesday
2:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Wednesday
7:00 pm - 9:30 pm (Summer only at present)
Thursday
2:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Saturday
10:00 am - 12:30 pm
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the stated start time.
Training, Instruction and Practice sessions are available
on some Wednesday mornings.The Leisure Centre provides
other facilities including a café and toilets.
Members take part in club events throughout the year
including:- Winter and Summer Scores competitions, a
Singles Ladder and 3-ender competition (Summer) plus the
Eileen Mitchell memorial trophy competition.
The club also enters team(s) that play in the local Cotswold
Petanque League, which is still competitive but less intense.
The club is a member of Petanque England which holds
regional events, allowing members to join and take part as
individuals or teams. Currently we have about 10 members
who hold PE membership taking part in a wider range of
competitions on a regular basis.
The club organises a 2-week petanque holiday to Almunecar in Southern Spain recently in October 2022, 2023 and its nearly time for the
2024 holiday. This usually includes players from Cricklade, Marlow, Malmesbury, Kemble and Cirencester making it a very friendly and
enjoyable way of playing the game in a beautiful setting. They stayed in the Hotel Helios Costa Tropical with a short walk to the beach where
they played various competitions over the 2 weeks. There were a good array of local Tapas bars and restaurants nearby that were frequented
after the petanque.
The club also has a clothing range of polo-shirts, sweat-
shirts, fleeces and baseball caps with the club logo on.
There also mugs available with the logo on.
